It was my first international flight!
My first flight!
I go and ask the lady in the check-in desk: “could you please give me a window seat?”
“Sir! you have been upgraded to business class! Don’t ask for much!”
I ” [period] swallow .. alright.. thank u!! “
I get in without any problems with any checks. alas, I had only clothes!
Bapa, amma, bujji, swamy and last but not the least “Sushma” had come! [thanks for all of them to come for my first flight!.. ]
The flight was to take me to Paris and then a transit and then to italia!
The flight was waiting. I had mixed feelings. When I saw the pilots i felt confident of the flight. it was 1.30 am I guess. I went and sat in the business seat. Only two seaters. it was very very comfortable. Am going to stay in this for the next 11 Hrs is what I told myself.
I developed a bit of claustrophobia initially. The flight took off the first one of my life. My memories and thoughts were shared and had almost a physical like connection with everyone at home and friends!
it was slowly being tested as the flight went up. The take off was smooth. coffee and dinner was served with unlimited booze. I choose coffee and person next to me enjoyed his champagne. I was feeling bad that I was going alone. Missing everyone back!
the flight was in the air. I tried watching a movie but the thoughts kept rolling back to bangalore.. what might they be thinking! How can I communicate to them that I love them and miss them!!????
I might have looked at my watch like a 50 times. It was alright. I dozed off only to get up at 5am . I went and freshened up. I started to wonder where i was. The map on the screen showed where we were! Some hours were left. so, again I went back to sleep.
Morning, in few hours to board down to Paris. I got my energy back thinking “man, some milestone is coming to an end!”
Landing gave me some pain in the ears. The first impressions of paris from the flight is memorable. You will not see anything so beautiful than paris!
got down in paris and went to the gates and again one more round of security checks. No problems again. Everything goes off smooth.
i wait in front of the boarding gate. but learn that there is another 45 minutes. I go and try calling from paris airport. It was french or I was tensed or lack of usability of the public phones I couldn’t use them. I tried my itouch and could get connected. so, I sent an email to all.
by the time I finished it was a last call to board the flight to italia(venicia:p) I dashed in.
I got into another flight but this time it was for only 1.30 Hrs. it was morning. It was hot sun outside. People were more relaxed. I started imagining how italy would be!
I imagined God father like buildings. I remembered italian job. Mara mara castle kept coming into my mind! the curiosity prevailed amidst the feeling that I haven’t communicated back home with family and friends.
The ear pain shot up. I felt like screaming!!! Only I didn’t scream!!! After 45 minutes i think, they offered breakfast which I passed and drank only coffee!
I tried reading “malgudi days”. At this point I want to record this. any other god damn book would have better than this book. javascript would have been lot better. sushma and adithya i will not spare u guys for this
Finally, 10 minutes to again land. Ear pain subsided but it was painful! Italia finally!!!
I got down and waited for 20 minutes to collect my baggages. I come out of the airport and suddenly find myself SWEATING!!!
can u believe a foreign country making u sweat:D
that is the first impressions!! it was HOT!!!
I bought my first ever ticket to “Mestre Railway station” from there I had to goto “Trieste”
I boarded the bus to Mestre. In the bus, I clicked like 200 photos:D I was sweating down!!
I got down in Mestre. I went into the railway station and wondered if i should stand in a queue to buy tickets or use those ticket machines.
My instinct made me use ticket vending machines. I bought a ticket from the machine for 16.5 Euros!!! 2.5 hrs journey to Trieste starting at 13.20hrs!!
The train comes exactly at 13.20! i board and there was nobody in the train. It was hot afternoon sun. The train started slowly. My first impressions were, it was like Bangalore in early 1990s in summer. hardly any people.
by this time, i had reached a mindset that i want to quickly go to Trieste and find my student hostel accommodation.
