vague/wage thoughts on a Friday night

Everybody will have 100 odd things in there wish list.

There is no right and wrong but there’s always a conventional way and winners don’t care for conventional way.

Between spending time on preparing road maps and just going for it is the difference between just planners and winners.

It’s not the talent that matters but consistent hammering and pushing oneself.

Hypocrites call it poor jokes and rest enjoy the creativity in the random wilderness of thoughts.

if you don’t keep quiet you run the risk of solving the problem.

If one is always afraid to try challenging things it’s better to master ‘ShavaSana’ than see others do other ‘Asanas’

How to punish oneself in one simple step? Hope to get a call from FM channels for a goodie.

There’s nothing wrong in being a technical person as long as you are not a treason.

It’s Ok to aspire but one should not forget that there will be people who will take a superior stand to curb your aspirations.

lastly, life is long to enjoy so don’t worry if you are not enjoying currently.

Design Patterns – Introduction

Of late.. I am discovering that I love teaching.. the preparation I put into teach others makes me understand the topics in a much better and cleaner way.

For starters, if you know design patterns its like .. you could be sure that you don’t design your system in a wrong way. If you want an efficient and a scalable system.. you need to factor in lot of things..

In fact,  I understood one thing. The best way to learn any new language is to first start with Design patterns. As a beginner to programming/coding one should not get enamored by the Syntax of that language(as they call it).

The best way to learn Java according to my experience is pick up Head first design patterns book and read it. Blindly, type all the code. You will learn how to use interfaces, inheritances etc etc., If you learn Java directly, no matter how much one explains the use of interfaces and inheritances one would not understand/appreciate it.

Learning Design patterns is a  continuous experience. The more you discuss with others the better your concepts would become.

I would encourage people who haven’t tried Design patterns to pick up the following:

1. Head First Design Patterns – java

Available on Flipkart: Price: 406/-

2. Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software - C++ (Gang of four)

Available on Flipkart: Price: at 356/-

3. .Net Patterns: Architecture,  Design and Process

Available on Flipkart: Price at 428/-

A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction

“The book creates a new language, what the authors call a  ‘pattern language’ derived from timeless entities called patterns. As they write on page xxxv of the introduction, “All 253 patterns together form a language.” Patterns describe a problem and then offer a solution. In doing so the authors intend to give ordinary people, not only professionals, a way to work with their neighbors to improve a town or neighborhood, design a house for themselves or work with colleagues to design an office, workshop or public building such as a school.“

Available on Flipkart: Price: at 2847/-

As I write the series of articles on Design patterns I would like to read the above books as my reference
To be continued..

growing up..is not only growing taller.. it is becoming “Acceptive”!!!

i started to write this on July 20 2010!!!

But now, it is end of 2011.. what do i feel about growing up!!

I feel the same still but growing up is making new mistakes and try to mitigate old ones.. and also growing up means becoming SMART..

then.. what is growing Old?

growing old according to me is growing to tolerate others and accepting others thoughts and feelings and accommodating them!

Just completed an old draft…

Video for the Universal Web

Video streaming over the Internet has become omnipresent. Content providers such as Netflix, Hulu, Apple, and Vudu don’t deploy their own delivery infrastructure, but use existing Internet distribution means to deliver their services. This streaming approach works surprisingly well without any particular support from the underlying network, even in heterogeneous access network environments, including mobile devices. This success is due to the use of efficient video compression, content delivery networks, and adaptive video clients. The following articles discusses lot of methods adopted like

  • comparison of push-pull based streaming protocols
  • end-to-end mobile and in-home streaming, current standardization efforts, and future challenges
  • emerging MPEG standard for Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP
  • World Wide Web Consortium initiatives regarding media annotations (for cross-community integration of multimedia objects), media fragments (for improved content access), and timed text (to enable online captioning)
  • management of heterogeneous environments, including session mobility and adaptive streaming over a three-tier server-proxy-client architecture.
  • address issues such as interactivity, packet loss, and client power constraints in mobile communication systems by using transcoders with dynamic feedback received from the terminals

TIP Hungama – Last over 7 runs required..what happened?

It was one of those days, when I wanted to win very very badly. It was more of my ego issue. I had to win because it was long since I desired something really hard.

The first match was a tie. It meant, we had to go through to the next round with the best run rate in the group. It meant if we chased, we had to have 9.5 runs per over(or I guess more).. if we batted first, we had to dismiss them by 37 runs(atleast). It’s a 10 overs match.

Our captain, Giri won the toss. We choose batting. Sreeni and I opened the innings. Sreeni was at his best. He hit 4s and 6s. Showered them literally. All I had to do was, rotate the strike. I just did that. We had a fantastic start of 35 runs partnership until got dismissed trying to pull a low raising delivery from around the stumps bowler. he was frustrated. That is when me and Giri put a partnership of 20 odd runs until I got run out. I was disheartened beyond expression. How could I get out when I had decided not to get out? I was timing the ball very well. There was no way I could get bowled like the last match. No ball passed my bat to get caught behind. I was not trying extravagant shots. All ground shots. How How How!!!

But, Giri held the innings from the other end. At the end of 8 overs, score was 85 runs. Last two overs was not great. We scored just 7 runs. At the end of it, our score said 92 runs and target was 93 runs.

The experts ran the algorithm which churned out THE numbers. You have to restrict them below 59 runs to have the run rate to go to the semi-finals.
Trust me, we had a very good start. It was always a tensed moment for all of us. Fantastic bowling from Giri, Suhas and Sreeni saw us through the first 7 overs. I had bowled just one over that was I guess in the 4th over. I had given 7 runs.

The scores said 3 overs 24 runs ( 24+ 34 = 58 runs actually) for us to reach semi-finals. Sreeni bowled and unfortunately for our team, a catch was dropped which resulted in a four. A wide heave from the batsman got them a four between long on and where I was standing i.e. mid wicket. But he recovered back to give just 2 runs in the next 4 balls.

2 overs 14 runs required. Giri bowled, the penultimate over. he bowled very well. Gave just 7 runs.

Last over, was a drama. Who should bowl. When sreeni and giri were discussing whom to bowl. I ran from mid wicket and took the ball and said. ‘Don’t worry. I will bowl!’ But everyone was worried. Can I bowl? It was a very crucial over. We couldn’t mess. Suhas was not feeling well. (he plays for SAP Labs). So Suhas was not ready to bowl the last over.

I had only one thing running in my mind. ‘Let me see how can they score 6 runs in my over. I am ready to give you hell’:D.. I was really high on winning on the match. With the adrenaline rush I set the field. Sent everybody back except pradeep and a 3rd slip.

Bowled the first ball, a heave again and a simple catch at mid wicket. What happened? it was somehow dropped :( . yes. It resulted in 2 runs. Everybody was tensed and disappointed. I ran in to bowl the next ball with more vigor! Result: a wide ball!!!

Match was slipping out of hand. All the emotions were running dry. Everybody gave up. 5 balls 4 runs. Who can’t hit! A simple heave and it will result in a boundary and you are thrown out of the tournament. Another wide and a mis field .. you are out!!!!

I told myself. Attacking wicket to wicket is the only option. I ran in and bowled a perfect yorker. I was ready to celebrate the uprooting the stumps. unfortunately, the ball hit the batsman’s toes! Damn!

Last 4 balls 4 runs.

I ran in again with wicket to wicket strategy. Batsman, defended and I had to run across the pitch to stop it. No run.

Last 3 balls 4 runs.

I ran in again telling myself, you could it. Come on!! Win is all we want!
A ball outside off. A single taken!

Last 2 balls 3 runs.

This time my adrenaline was rushing even more. I was smelling the victory. I was ultra sure we are going through. But, there was a field change. Only man covering both mid wicket and long on. Giri came to short mid wicket to save the single. I protested. But, he reasoned, we can’t give singles and lose the match. I agreed.

I ran this time, telling myself, outside off, just short of length. Result: batsman beaten!

Last ball 3 runs.

Everyone sent to boundary line. Tensed moments. Very tensed moments. Heart beating heavily. Only one thought running through my mind. JUST ONE MORE BALL. JUST ONE GOOD BALL. COME ON VASANTH. I charged in. Outside off. Just short of length. Batsman hits the ball directly to gully. I ran to the gully and literally shouted at the gully fielder to release the ball!!!!!

it was over before I realized. We had made it!!!!!!!!!!!

I dashed around the ground with the best of the best feelings!!! Inexpressible happiness!!!

That’s all from my side. Tuesday Semi-finals. Hoping to go and win the TIP Hungama Cricket cup!

TIP Hungama – Last over 5 runs required.. what happened?

Two catches in mid-wicket long on region. One wicket and one run out in two overs.

My recent match.. thought of sharing.. target 75 in 10 overs.. opened the batting.. 5 overs 52.. 4 overs 45.. 3 overs 22.. 2 overs 9.. 1 over 5.. by then the opposite team had lost hopes.. that is when yours truly who had scored some 30 odd runs.. got bowled first ball of last over.. match ended in a tie!

A satisfaction to have played full innings from first ball. But in the end it didn’t matter..
when I had to finish it, I got out, just 5 more runs.. one easy ball.. didn’t judge the bounce and got bowled!

After a well constructed innings.. I thought I will finish it..

but…. shake of head..

sleepless night.. today.. and I am sure we will win tomorrow and we will reach semi-finals1!

Till then.. I should have finished thought will be there in the back of my mind!!!
